3 Days, 3 Quotes: Day 3

Good morning cats and kittens! Today we’re rounding off the book tag as nominated by Jordan Bates – check out her Day 3 post for good measure. She gets real about depression and anxiety for Day 3, which is something we could all stand to talk about more. As she puts it, let’s make sure that others know they’re not alone.

Both of us loved the book It by Stephen King. People often seem puzzled by that. Isn’t that the one about the clown that kills children?

Well, no. But let’s not talk about the complexity of what It, the entity, is. Instead, let’s talk about the real reason why we love It so much: it’s about friendship.

We consider you inhuman if you don’t see yourself in one of the Losers. three was delighted to find herself in Eddie, who is still the only hypochondriac she’s ever read a book about. It’s not a very romantic mental illness, for writing purposes, but the scenes where It used Eddie’s health anxieties to mess with him resonated like crazy. And erm loved shy Ben, who is the sweetest kid and adult ever which makes the tv version of It’s sleazification of the character a little disconcerting.

So once you’ve gone and seen your greatest flaws and insecurities reflected back at you by one of these kids, they go ahead and smash your heart into a million pieces, as such:

“Maybe there aren’t any such things as good friends or bad friends – maybe there are just friends, people who stand by you when you’re hurt and who help you feel not so lonely. Maybe they’re always worth being scared for, and hoping for, and living for. Maybe worth dying for too, if that’s what has to be. No good friends. No bad friends. Only people you want, need to be with; people who build their houses in your heart.”
